Llanberis Tourist Attractions, Places to Visit, Things to Do
The town of Llanberis is located right in the heart of Snowdonia and has many local attractions for both visitors and locals alike offering a wide variety of places to visit and things to do and see.
Firstly we should mention Mount Snowdon, the tallest mountain in England and Wales and the second tallest in the whole of the United Kingdom. The town of Llanberis nestles at the foot of the mountain and many visitors come just for the activities such as mountain walking that are offered in the area. For the less active the Snowdon Mountain Railway offers a more relaxed way to reach the summit taking in spectacular views along the way.
There are many other attractions within the town including Llanberis Lake Railway which runs alongside Lake Padarn and the Padarn Country Park, Electric Mountain which showcases the huge electricity works built inside the mountains near the town, the National Slate Museum highlighting the history of slate mining that was once the main industry of the region.
Just outside of the town are the neighbouring towns of Caernarfon with the majestic Caernarfon Castle and Bangor with its ancient cathedral and busy shopping district.
A little further afield is the Isle of Anglesey with its beautiful beaches, and to the south of Llanberis are the towns of Porthmadog and Blaenau Ffestiniog with the world famous Ffestiniog Mountain Railway.
Also worth a mention is the italiante village of Portmeirion which featured in the television series The Prisoner.
