Snowdonia North WalesSnowdonia is the common short name used for describing the Snowdonia National Park. The region is home to the tallest mountain in England and Wales, Mount Snowdon, and covers a region of 840 square miles. The majority of the region stands within the county of Gwynedd with a smaller section in the county of Conwy and is dominated by wild scenery and wind swept mountains. The region is very popular with mountain walkers and has many popular attractions including the Snowdon Mountain Railway and Electric Mountain as well as guided tours. Water sports enthusiasts can visit the town of Bala famous for its fast flowing rivers and lake. If you plan on spending most of your time exploring the heart of Snowdonia you should stay near to Betws-y-Coed, Llanberis or Caernarfon which are all within easy reach of the area. Slightly further afield is the Llyn Peninsula with its own delights but still easy in terms of access to the region. To the south of Snowdonia you can stay in the towns of Porthmadog, Dolgellau and Harlech which are all within easy reach of the Portmeirion tourist village. Just a short drive from the heart of Snowdonia is the North Wales Coast with the popular tourist resort of Llandudno and Anglesey which offers beautiful beaches which are ideal for watersports.
