Conwy Estuary
The Conwy Estuary is surrounding Conwy Castle which is very important from a defensive point of view. It is a natural defensive mechanism. In the days when the castle was in use there was very little aquatic technology around, especially a craft to attack from. So the water was a good barrier because people simply could not attack from that angle and as the castle is surrounded by water on a lot of sides it makes it more of a formidable military structure. This goes together with other natural features that defend the castle like the solid rock foundations to stop people digging holes under the castle.
