Civil War, it's effects in Wales and what happened
The English Civil War took place between 1642 and 1651 between the Parliamentarists (known as Roundheads) and Royalists (known as Cavaliers). Although it is known as the English Civil War it effects often strayed into Wales and important events and people from the time can be seen below.
The Royalists were followers of King Charles I whilst the Roundheads were followers of Parliament and Oliver Cromwell.
In 1645 Cardigan Castle was partly destroyed.
