Beaumaris, Anglesey, North Wales
Beaumaris is situated on the east coast of Anglesey in North Wales overlooking the Snowdonia Mountains and Bay of Conwy. The town is approximately 6 miles south from the A55 and Britannia Bridge.
Once the capital of the island the town boasts a well preserved castle as well as a number of other attractions making it an ideal location for a short visit or as a base from which to explore North Wales.
The castle was originally constructed by King Edward I in 1295 as the last of the 'Iron Ring' of fortresses meant to subdue the Welsh uprisings.
The castle was never finished due to lack of funds but never saw military action. In later times the town became a haven for pirates as well as a busy trading port and after the advent of steam ships became a popular resort for visitors from Liverpool and elsewhere.
Other attractions well worth a visit within Beaumaris are The Courthouse, which dates back to 1614, Beaumaris Gaol that was designed in 1829, and the Museum of Childhood Memories which contains over 2000 items in its collection.

 Beaumaris Castle is located on the Isle of Anglesey in North Wales and is situated looking eastwards towards the Menai Straits and the mountains of Snowdonia. The castle is within the town of Beaumaris and can most easily be reached by car from the A55 dual carriageway which is clearly signposted from the Britannia Bridge. |
