AmmanfordAmmanford is a busy town on the edge of the Brecon Beacon National Park, retaining a flavour of the town's proud coal mining heritage. Before the mid 1800s some coal was certainly being mined from outcrops of various seams, but for domestic use only. The economy of the district, lay principally in farming. Once being the centre of the local coal mining industry, now a days, since the demise of the 'National Coal Board' and the resulting privatisation of what's left of the coal industry, Ammanford has become a bustling valley town with a good shopping centre. Nearby, the Black Mountains and Betws Mountain offer superb views over as far as the Gower Peninsula. The town is the home of two well-known Knitwear companies, both having factory shops and there is a colourful open-air market on a Friday. Ammanford has a pretty park, swimming pool and indoor bowls centre.
