Aberystwyth
Aberystwyth is the principal holiday resort and administrative centre of the west coast of Wales.
Situated towards the centre of Cardigan Bay, Aberystwyth is nestled between three hills and two beaches. The surrounding hills hold the visible remains of an Iron Age fort and also a monument to Wellington, King Edward I's castle remains can be seen here too.
The harbour was once one of the busiest in Wales, the rivers Ystwyth and Rheidol, the steepest river in Britain, feed it. The seafront, has large impressive Victorian and Edwardian hotels along its wide promenade.
Aberystwyth is a University town with some seven thousand students, ensuring it to be lively throughout the year and not just during summertime, it is also home to the National Library.
The Aberystwyth Electric Cliff Railway is the longest electric cliff railway in Britain. It climbs the 110m Constitution Hill from the northern end of the town's promenade with views of the Preseli Hills, Cardigan Bay and Snowdonia.
