Abergavenny
Only 20 miles from the English border, lies the picturesque town of Abergavenny, nestling in the Usk Valley.
With the Brecon Beacons so near this National Park is not to be missed, with many walkers descending all year round.
The town itself, is full of historic, architectural, cultural and scenic interest, Abergavenny is dominated by what remains of its Norman Castle. The castle is one of the best examples of a motte and bailey castle in Britain. Here, in the restored early 19th century keep and hunting lodge built in the ruins of an 11th Century castle is the museum.
Other sites to see in the town include the 12th century Priory Church, with recently restored impressive tombs of Marcher Lords and other famous families, the Victorian Town Hall, which houses a complete Theatre as well as an extensive Market Hall. If it's peace and quiet you're after then some extremely rare orchids and shrubs can be found within Linda Vista Gardens, which first opened to the public in 1843.
