Aberdyfi
Aberdyfi is a popular small seaside village within the Snowdonia National Park, located at the point the River Dovey meets Cardigan Bay.
There's a lot to do whether the weather's good or not. With four miles of beach it is popular with watersports enthusiasts having excellent sailing and surfing facilities, with boat trips and pleasure cruises being offered in season and regular regattas being held here. It also has an 18-hole championship golf course running parallel with the sand dunes.
The town was once an important harbour for slate export, and it had a "triangle of trade" with slate going to Cadiz in Spain, sea salt from Spain to Newfoundland where cod was picked up to return to Spain or Britain. You can learn more about the maritime history at the museum or just visit the nearby wharf gardens.
Aberdyfi is an ideal base for those who enjoy walking or bird watching as the peaks of Cader Idris and Aran Fawddwy are within easy reach, as are many major attractions in North Wales and Mid Wales.
