A5, London to Holyhead RoadThe A5 London to Holyhead road runs through the heartlands of North Wales passing through some of the most popular towns and villages along the way before leaving the Welsh borderlands into the English counties. The road begins its journey in the town of Holyhead on the Isle of Anglesey and until the A55 Anglesey extension was built was the main traffic route across the island. As it travels eastwards the road merges briefly with the A55 as it crosses the Menai Straits on the Britannia Bridge before continuing its journey down through the Snowdonia National Park and the town of Llanberis. Here you can stop off and take in the beauty of Mount Snowdon or even take a trip to the summit of the tallest mountain in England and Wales. Continuing onwards the road winds towards Capel Curig, famous as an outdoor activity centre, and then onwards to Betws-y-Coed, one of North Wales most picturesque towns. There are many reasons to stop in Betws including countryside walks, Swallow Falls, and the Conwy Valley Railway Museum. From Betws the A5 winds upwards across the moorlands towards Llangollen taking in wonderful vistas of the Snowdonia National Park. The town of Llangollen offers a range of watersports activities as well as accommodation and the Llangollen Railway. Finally before leaving Wales the road travels eastwards towards Shrewsbury and into the English counties.
