Holidays on Anglesey
Anglesey is a large beautiful island located off the coast of North Wales in the United Kingdom. The island is located close to the Snowdonia National Park and the towns of Bangor and Caernarfon are located nearby. Anglesey is famous for its beautiful beaches and self catering holidays and watersports are very popular.
Anglesey has a wealth of history with historic sites such as Beaumaris Castle which is located in the town of Beaumaris on the islands east coast. Beaumaris Castle was built over 800 years ago during King Edward I's of England's reign. Beaumaris Castle was sadly never finished but is still considered to be one of the finest examples of its type in the world.
There are plenty of outdoor activities to do on Anglesey from coastal parks to farm parks. Two such parks are located at Holyhead on the western coast of the island. The Penrhos Nature Reserve is located just a few minutes from the centre of Holyhead and is a great chance to see many of the islands native species.
The second park at Holyhead is the Breakwater Country Park which was built at the same time as the large ports' breakwater. Stretching around Holyhead mountain the park has a number of designated country walks. If your legs are up to it then you can also walk over to South Stack which is the primary lighthouse for the island and stands on its own rocky outcropping reached by crossing a narrow suspension bridge high above the crashing water.
With so many terrific beaches watersports are a popular pasttime on Anglesey. The village of Rhosneigr, which is located on the islands south coast is especially popular. Rhosneigr has two excellent beaches which are ideally suited to a variety of watersports such as sailing, canoeing, and diving.
If you fancy going more upmarket then Anglesey can cater to your tastes as well. There are a number of high quality hotels on Anglesey including the Tre Ysgawen Hall Country House Hotel which is located close to the town of Llangefni in the centre of the island. Two other excellent hotels worth considering are the Trearddur Bay Hotel and The Bulkeley Hotel. Before visiting Anglesey find more information on places to stay and Anglesey Attractions.
